2011 Paris Lawn Mower Association Derby Rules

for FISHER FAIR, July 16th, 2011 7:00pm (CST)

All drivers must be 18 years old, 14 with a signed permission statement submitted to the Paris Lawn Mower Association Secretary by a parent or guardian. Age verification required, drivers license accepted.

Basic Lawn Building Rules

  1. Only front mounted motors are allowed on mowers. No rear mounted motors allowed.
  2. Maximum of 18 horsepower motors allowed.
  3. No zero turn mowers allowed.
  4. Only belt driven mowers allowed.
  5. Electric start mower preferred, you must be able to start your mower from your seat. No lying across the hood of your mower to start it.
  6. No mower decks allowed. They must be removed. The handle may be welded in place.
  7. Only 1/8 inch material thickness allowed.
  8. No solid square or round material allowed for front or rear bumpers. They must be hollow material. Remember these are mowers not tanks.
  9. You must have leg protection installed on the mower. They can be attached to the rear fenders and the front bumper. No rebar or t-post allowed. The attachment to the front bumper must be at an angle. No square corners allowed on front of the mower.
  10. Mowers must have a front and rear bumper/bar. Bumpers can be no wider than the frame. The bumpers may not extend more than 2 inches beyond the mowers. The rear bumper must clear the driver seat. Padding for back protection is optional. Rear bumper cannot obstruct the rear fenders or tires of the mower. The front bumper may not be higher than 12 inches above the frame. The bumpers are the only things allowed to be attached to the frame. No pointed or jagged bumpers are allowed.
  11. No frame reinforcement allowed of any kind. The only modifications allowed to the frame are attachments for the installation of the bumpers and to repair a damaged frame. Patches to the frame are to be made with no larger than 1/8 inch thick material. The patches may not extend more than 3 inches beyond the damaged area.
  12. CLEAN UP YOUR WELDS!! We do not want any participants cut from nasty welds!!
  13. You may rig a hand throttle or a foot throttle control for your use.
  14. Hoods must be bolted or wired down securely for emergency access if necessary.
  15. Battery and fuel tank cannot be in front of the motor. They both must be securely attached.
  16. Spark plug and carburetor protectors are allowed as long as they are attached to the motor only.
  17. Homemade exhausts are allowed. They must be pointed up or down. They may protrude thru the hood if desired.
  18. Rear wheels may not be any larger than 12 inches in diameter.
  19. No dual wheels allowed.
  20. No wheel covers, wheel weights or chains are allowed.
  21. Tubes, Slime, and other sealants are allowed. No foam filled tires allowed.
  22. No tire protection allowed of any kind.
  23. Modification or replacement of the drive pulleys for desired gearing is allowed.
  24. Fiberglass hoods may be replaced with fabricated hoods as long as they are made of sheet metal only. No reinforced hoods will be allowed. Other hoods off of other mowers are allowed.
  25. Numbers are to fully visible on hood and visible on each side, even if you have to make a plate for the number.
  26. No homemade mowers are allowed period!
  27. Helmets are required. No open toed shoes allowed. Gloves are optional, but allowed.
  28. No profanity or obscene gestures are allowed on to be placed on your mowers. If you show up with them on your mowers they will be painted over by the inspection officials before you can be admitted to participate in any event. No profanity or obscene gestures are to be used off of your mowers either. Remember we all represent the association.
  29. Hits to other mowers are to be with the front of your mower only. No hits are allowed to the leg area of any mower. Hits are to be to the wheels, to the front or rear of mowers only. Discretion is to be used for any hit. Safety of the drivers is to be the main concern.
  30. No placing of feet on the ground allowed except to prevent rollover of mower.
  31. All repairs to mowers are to be done while on the seat of mower. No getting off the mower for repairs.
  32. No use of feet to get out of a ditch.
  33. No pushing off or kicking of opponents tires allowed. If locked up with each, rocking of mower is the only thing allowed.
  34. The only time you are allowed to get off of your mower is in an emergency or an order from an official.
  35. ABOSOLUTELY NO SANDBAGGING OR GANGBANGING ALLOWED.
  36. You will receive only 1 warning for all infraction of the rules with the exception of the 60 second rule below. The second time you will be immediately disqualified.
  37. You must make hit at least 1 hit every 60 seconds then immediately disqualified.
  38. Any driver who gets into a ditch can re-enter from any direction as long as the driver does so within 60 seconds. The driver is not allowed to get off of his mower to do this.
  39. Under red flag conditions, all activity ceases until the official’s wave the green flag to restart the action on the track.
  40. All complaints are to be in writing and submitted to the announcers stand. The complaint will then be given to the President of the Association at the earliest convenience.
  41. ALL OFFICIALS DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
  42. Head official overrides all decisions.
  43. Head official has the right to disqualify any mower for safety concerns.
    ** Lawn mower check in begins at 5:00pm (CST) in the pit area.
    **Enter all mowers thru the NORTH GATE on First St. (the last gate on the fairgrounds, directly into the pit area)
    **Driver will be admitted FREE only. All other team mates or pit people must pay to get into the gate of $8.00 each.
    **Entry Fee – make checks to: Fisher Fair - $25.00
    **Payouts to 1st, 2nd 3rd including $200 divided; as added incentive
